Aaron J. Horowitz is the founder and CEO of Empath Labs, a pediatric patient experience lab dedicated to improving outcomes through empathy-driven design. Inspired by his own experience with human growth hormone deficiency, Aaron has created tools like Clinical Companions for pediatric clinical research, Rufus the Bear for children with type 1 diabetes, and My Special Aflac Duck, a robotic companion for children with cancer and sickle cell disease. Used by over 188,000 children worldwide, these innovations help alleviate anxiety, provide comfort, and improve adherence to medical treatments. 

Aaron’s work has earned accolades such as the DIA Outstanding Contribution to Health Award (2024), two TIME Best Invention of the Year awards, and recognition by the White House as one of 50 honored makers. 

Prior to Empath Labs, Aaron founded Design for America, a nationwide non-profit that empowers college students with design thinking skills to create social impact innovations. He holds a degree in Mechatronics and User Interaction Design from Northwestern University.

Barry M. Katz ​

​Barry Katz was educated at McGill University in Montréal, the London School of Economics, and holds a doctorate from the University of California at Santa Cruz.  He is Consulting Professor in the Design Group, Department of Mechanical Engineering, at Stanford University and Professor of Industrial and Interaction Design at the California College of the Arts in San Francisco.
In addition to his academic affiliations, Barry is Fellow at IDEO, Inc., the Silicon Valley-based design and innovation consultancy, where he conducts front-end research in support of IDEO project work, and at the University of Tokyo i-School. He consults with governments, companies, and academic institutions worldwide on issues pertaining to design and innovation.
Barry is the author of six books, including Change By Design with Tim Brown, (Harper Collins, 2009), which explores the nature of design thinking as a strategy of business, and NONOBJECT, with Branko Lukic, (MIT, 2010), a conceptual exploration of “the space between person and product.”  A new book, Make it New: The History of Silicon Valley Design, will be published by the MIT Press in Fall, 2015. His writings on design as a strategy of innovation have appeared in many academic, professional, and popular journals.

JANE MARIE CHEN

JANE MARIE CHEN is a social entrepreneur who is the co-founder and CEO of Embrace Innovations, which developed a groundbreaking baby incubator estimated to have helped over 250,000 babies in over 20 countries. More recently, Jane launched a consumer product line called Little Lotus Baby, temperature regulating baby products that have a buy-one, give-one model.
Jane has been a TED Speaker and TED Fellow; she was selected as one of Forbes’ Impact 30 and Town & Country’s 50 biggest philanthropists. She has received the Economist Innovation Award, the Fast Company Design Award, and was recognized as a Schwab Social Entrepreneur of the Year. Jane is also a Young Global Leader of the World Economic Forum. Her work has been profiled in global media, as well as by Clinique, Dove, BCBG, Lululemon and other major brands. The story of Embrace is documented in best-selling books, including Essentialism (by Greg McKeown) and Creative Confidence (by Tom and David Kelley, founder of IDEO).
Jane received her MBA from Stanford Graduate School of Business, and her Masters in Public Administration from Harvard Kennedy School of Government. She is an avid surfer and meditator, and speaks about topics ranging from design thinking, to innovation, to leadership and the entrprenuerial journey.

沈美君 Diane Shen

Diane同時身兼台北辦公室的共同合夥人。她是一個會做策略的設計師、會看程式碼的使用者研究員。

她長期與跨國企業及新創團隊合作，處理創新過程中複雜且充滿不確定性疑難雜症，譬如：新事業開發、顧客體驗(再)設計、企業文化變革等；在協助企業設計創新流程時，她總會與客戶團隊緊密合作，一起經歷從發想到驗證的每個蛻變過程。「做>說」是她的生活態度，這讓她對如何讓構想落地充滿熱情。在加入BMI之前，她曾任職於全球管理顧問公司Accenture及Cognizant資訊技術公司的印度分部。Diane是暢銷書《設計ㄧ門好生意（Design A Better Business）》的共同協作者、Service Design Network Taiwan分會共同發起人、服務設計國際個案研究SDNCase Study Editorial Team的編輯團隊。
